There, in the shadow of Haleakala rests beautiful and tranquil Makena Beach. Here Haleakala’s immense size provides more than stunning views: a calm, clear ocean is almost always found in the lee of the immense crater, producing amazing visibility and perfect conditions for ocean adventuring!
We, at Holo Hawaii Tours got you covered. On a trip with us you are guaranteed to see our resident Green Sea Turtles, Honu, in Hawaiian. They are in abundance and regularly come up for air and check out what’s happening at the surface. If you join us in the winter months December-February, Humpback whales are common, as they come every year to nurse their young before their long trek back north.
Imagine sitting in a kayak within a baseball throw of a 40 foot Humpback whale as it breeches. You will be blown away by not only the size of these peaceful giants but the different noises they make! Besides their musical voices, the whales will clap the water with their massive tails and eject water high into the air. It is truly a special experience sharing the water with these creatures and it is our absolute pleasure to safely guide you and your family among our wildlife.
For those not joining us in winter, there is still an abundance of life to see even with the whales gone from the Islands. Spinner dolphins come in packs and are among the most curious animals in the ocean, and not at all bashful about putting on a show. Extremely intelligent, they can be seen doing flips and putting on an aerial display simply to entertain.
At Holo Hawaii Tours we practice zero trace tours which means we take our guests into a beautiful eco-system that we would like to keep that way. We see it as our duty to pass a long a few tips on how to enjoy the environments without disrupting the natural cycles of the ocean. We also boast one of the most affordable tours on Maui! Kids under 5-9 cost $60; all others are $85 per person- a steal!
Experiencing nature at its most untouched can be complicated: where to go, what to bring, how to keep your things dry. We provide food & drinks, everything kayak related, water proof bags and all your snorkeling gear. We take care of everything you don’t want to, however, there are a few personal items we suggest you bring in order to fully enjoy the great outdoors.
First, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. The Hawaiian sun is extra powerful and we would hate for you to leave us looking like a lobster. Lastly, a towel, swimsuit and water appropriate shoes, ie. slippers or sandals. All you really need it what you’d typically take to the pool; we provide everything else! It’s a no fuss day that you will never forget!
